Environmentally Friendly Cartridges

Posted on 20. Oct, 2013 by in Create

circut001Just bought my first Cricut cartridge that came in ProvoCraft’s new packaging. Love their effort to use smaller packaging!

Normally, each cartridge comes with a box that is twice this size.  It’s taller to accommodate the overlay that you use to lay on the cricut machine to know what keys to push. In this new little square box, the overlay is not included. Again, making it more environmentally friendly.

Embed YouTube Video into WordPress Post

Posted on 29. Jun, 2013 by in Develop

This recently came up with a client on her site.  She wanted to include a recent video into a WordPress post on her website.

Normally when you create a post, you enter your text into the post area. If you look above the input area and the tool bar, you will see two tabs.  One is labeled “Visual” and the second one is called “Text”.  Nine times out of ten, you stay on the Visual tab.  For this, you will enter the embed code over on the Text tab.

graffitiLogoOh my gosh, why didn’t I discover this sooner?  I’ve long since known that there was software out there that would schedule your content and post it to Facebook, Twitter, and your blog.  But I wasn’t expecting how handy this tool would be!

I have a client that was interested in ensuring that their Facebook posts were appearing on their subscribers news feed pages.  With recent changes on Facebook, a company could not be sure that the posts on their Facebook business page, was showing on everyone’s news feeds.  My client did some research on the subject and found an article about posting to your blog (see “How to Reclaim your Missing Audience“) and having it automatically post to your Facebook page.  So it made me take another look at this process. New Cricut Cartridges

Extreme Fonts

This cartridge just came out this year. It contains 5 fonts, each has a shadow. One is very thin, I plan to use with my markers. One is for large letters and number, you might use this for wall decor.

I found it the cheapest online at http://cartridgesandmore.com/.  But do an internet search to find the best price now that more sites are selling it. Read More…

Good advice!

goodadviceWritten by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer Newspaper, Cleveland, Ohio.

“To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I’ve ever written.

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.. Read More…

Cards on the Fly

Posted on 03. Sep, 2012 by in Create

I was searching for card ideas on YouTube the other night and came across the Cards on the Fly video that showed how to make this adorable birthday card with a pop-up cake in the middle of it. How cute is that?

It’s fairly easy to create. The tricky part is scoring the inside at the right spots. Read More…

Create a Critter

Posted on 30. Aug, 2012 by in Create

I recently signed up to receive emails from Cricut.com and I noticed that they have a “free cartridge cutting” event happening each week.  I saw in the Craft Room software last week that there was a cartridge called “Life’s a Party” and didn’t think much about it, I just knew that I didn’t own it.  But now when I log-in, it’s gone but there’s a new one this week called “Create a Critter”. They must be letting us try out the different cartridges before we purchase them. (In the cutting software you can design with all of their cartridges, but only cut with the ones that you own).

Cricut Craft Room, Part II

Posted on 26. Aug, 2012 by in Create

I’ve been trying out the new Cricut Craft Room software again. I have many Cricut products, and overall I’m happy with them.

This Craft Room software replaces their original “Design Studio Software” that was very buggy. You could make it work, but you need a training class to understand how to use it and there were quirks that needed fixed, I think they decided to start all over again! The original software was $60, and the new version is free. Seems like they wised up and realized if we have a product that works, we’ll buy the cutting machine and cartridges to go along with it.

So here’s the items I like about the new Cricut Craft Room software:

  • it’s free
  • you can login from anywhere that has an internet connection
  • you can share saved project files with friends Read More…

Slice and Dice that PSD

Posted on 16. Jul, 2012 by in Develop

I recently attended WordCamp at OSU. Enjoyed all the presentations!

One presentation left me wanting more information about slicing up a design of a website. Many time I work with a client and they have an idea of how they want to layout their website. We talk about the purpose of the site as well as the look. But once we draw up the design, I didn’t know how to “slice” it into the pieces needed for the look or theme of the website. Read More…

New Google Glasses

Posted on 22. Jun, 2012 by in Consult

The glasses run a form of Google’s Android operating system that appears to be both voice-controlled and, less familiarly, view-controlled: A bar of small icons floats just above the wearer’s line of sight, and by looking upward, the wearer can interact with the icons to view the weather, send text messages, and do much of what a smartphone can do. In addition to smartphone functionality, however, the Google glasses attempt to interact with the world that it sees in front of and around the wearer, “augmenting” or supplementing the reality that the wearer experiences.  Read more.

Become an Amazon Affiliate

Online shopping has become more and more popular. It’s so much easier to price compare online without running from store to store. Seems like lately the stores don’t even stock the item I’m looking for and they recommend that I order it online – why did I bother coming into the store?!

If you have a website and/or blog, you are probably writing about products and making recommendations, even if that is not your main form of income for your business. Why not get a little credit for making sound recommendations to your readers? Read More…

Handy Cricut Products

Posted on 15. Jun, 2012 by in Create

I use the 12×12 cutting system called the Cricut Expression.  It’s wonderful for cutting titles, fonts, and shapes for your scrapbook layouts.

Tip: There’s a smaller 6×12 size cutter, but I recommend the larger one.  The price difference is not very much and you’ll be glad when you can cut large cutouts such as cards, boxes, and large shapes for posters and those big 3-D projects. Read More…

EverNote Software

As I mentioned in a previous blog, I’ve been using FreeConferenceCall.com for client calls when we need to get more than one of us on the call at the same time.  It’s working great.

This week I noticed that it has a sync with EVERNOTE software. You can download it or just use in the browser. I haven’t done the download yet. I believe I can sync with my phone too. I’ll search for the EverNote app for Android. Read More…

What’s the interest in Pinterest

Posted on 01. Jun, 2012 by in Consult

You may have heard about Pinterest lately.  It’s a growing social networking website, much like Facebook, that allows everyone to share photos.

Pinterest calls itself a “Virtual Pinboard”. It’s symbol is the letter “P” on a red circle. A “pin” is an image. You can push the image or pin into your boards to save and organize your favorites. Read More…
